Lord Rama (also known as Ramachandra or Raghunath) is the hero in the famous story, the Ramayana. Rama is a human being with 2 arms. Rama has a bow and arrow. His consort is Sita (an incarnation of Lakshmi).

The wise king Dasaratha ruled over his kingdom Ajodhya in North-India. He got a son named Rama, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu. Rama married Sita, the daughter of king Janaka. Kaikeyi, the stepmother of Rama, asked her husband to enthrone her son Bharata and to send Rama to the forest for fourteen years. King Dasaratha then ordered Rama to go to the forest. Rama went to the forest with Laksmana, his brother, and Sita. During their stay in the forest the demon, Ravana, kidnapped Sita and carried her to Lanka (Sri Lanka).

Rama and Laksmana made friend with Sugriva, the monkey king. Hanuman, Rama’s eternal servant, found Sitaon the island of Lanka. The battle starts against Ravana. With Laksmana’s help, along with the help of the monkey army, Rama was able to kill Ravana and his army.

Rama then returned to his own kingdom in Ajodhya to become king. By killing Ravana the wish of the gods was fulfilled. The universe is free again of the tyranny of Ravana.
